I’ve just made it through a pretty nasty problem with Office. I had been running the beta version, and had updated it to the RTM version available on MSDN. Yesterday I got a message saying that it was going to expire in 2 days. I tried changing my product key, but it wouldn’t accept my (legitimate) key. I did notice one odd thing that the version numbers were mismatched at various areas of the system – both 14.0.0460 and 14.0.0463 were showing. As it turns out, that had nothing to do with it, as this is expected behaviour, but I decided to do a full uninstall and reinstall.
After reinstalling, every one of my Office applications wanted to run through configuration every time they started. This problem, as it turns out is not new, and there are unfortunately many possible causes, and as many solutions. I tried many of them. I did have the registry permissions problem with HKEY_CLASSES, and walked through the solution outlined here. It helped me with OneNote and Outlook, but Word and Excel were still problems. Uninstalling and reinstalling (multiple times) didn’t help at all.
Luckily,(for me) a colleague had some really nasty problems last year that required him completely removing Office 2007 from his computer. After speaking with Microsoft support,he received a utility that was to do the job, and it worked well. I thought I’d give it a whirl. Unfortunately, it only wiped 2007 not 2010, but luckily, it’s a vbs file and therefore editable.
After removing all 2007 and 2010 applications from control panel, I ran the 2007 utility, which found and removed lots of stuff. I copied the file and then edited it to be relevant for Office 2010. I then ran it, and it did its magic, with a few errors related to the removal of unrelated temp files. A reboot, a reinstall, and I’m up and running again. Nice – I wasn’t looking forward to the idea of repaving my system.
I”ve included both of these removal utilities here. No warranties are expressed or implied, they may help or hurt, they may make your system catch on fire, and if they do, don’t blame me. All I can say is that they worked really well for me.

I can’t thank you enough for this !!! I’m so disgusted with Microsoft, I’ve wasted a week of my time trying to fix this. They can’t even correctly update their Office software from 2007 to 2010 without completely screwing everything up.
I had a perfectly functioning Office 2007 legally purchased and registered system, which was completely trashed by a legally purchased and registered Office 2010 “update”. Right after the “update” I started experiencing the what I now know is the dreaded re-install/re-configure of Office 2010 every freaking time I used the stupid software. It’s simply unbelievable that Microsoft can actually screw their own software suites up. Amazing !!!

For those who get registry access permission problem, try running the script as administrator. Please follow the steps below for Windows Vista and 7.
1. Click on Windows’ Start button.
2. Type “cmd” in the search box (without quotes). The command console cmd.exe will display in the list.
3. Right-click on “cmd.exe” and then left-click on “Run As Administrator”
4. Click “Yes” on the User Account Control dialog box to allow cmd.exe to run as administrator.
5. Type in the full path to the office scrubber script, i.e. “c:my folderoffice scrubbersoffscrub10.vbs”, then hit enter key.

if you getting the insuffienant permisson error. Open cmd prompt as admin by opening run box type in CMD right click name/file run as aministator. then ul get window of comand prompt. then in type in the file of vbs enter. that will allow access permissions for it to run properly.
I followed the instructions and got the the admin box. Problem is when I cut and paste the path to the file it doesn’t work. It says “the file is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file”. I’m going on 20 hours of frustration trying to get this resolved. please help.
Hey Ron, I had the same problem on my system and thought i’d show you how I solved it on my end. Basically when running cmd.exe as admin and you either know the file path to the file or managed to “cd” your way to the folder with the file, you then can type: START /WAIT CScript .vbs //NoLogo, where in the place of “.vbs” you put either the file path (example being c:Program FilesOffScrub10.vbs), or just place the filename itself if you are in the folder. It should work from there.

Exactly what is needed. My question is this, how can I add this into an uninstall GPO to remove 2010 fully without the POPUP that asks you to confirm what you want removed.
I need to remove the whole off office 2010 on many pc’s and install office 2003 during the startup process on 1 reboot so I will be using GPO to deploy.

The long story in brief: I got hit with a malware, cleaned that up then during an AcrobatReader update was prompted to allow a download of 30-day trial of Norton – figured after the malware hit might be good idea and couldn’t hurt, right? Big mistake. Had to reset my computer to factory defaults, which included Office 2007. I downloaded Windows updates and SP3. Discovered 2007 and my previously perfectly good install of Access 2010 were both in place. So I did a Repair install of 2010 and 2007 went away but 2010 started throwing the ‘configure’ process every time. I tried uninstall/reinstall several times. No luck there. I ran both your tools and a miracle occurred – Access now opens clean! THANK YOU.

One question please.
After running the removal program for office 7 the last thing appearing in the box is c:download. It appears there should be some kind of dos command to be entered. I entered ‘exit’ and the window closed but I do not think the program actually ran because the file I wanted to remove is still in the registery.
What ‘dos command’ should be entered or what should I do?

Im still having major problems. I was running a trial of office 2010, now when i try to put in the key for the new office 2010 it still says i have 3 days left of the trial period. I have deleted and ran offscrub10. Do i also need to run 07? Any suggestions would be great!

I used the Microsoft Fix-it Office Uninstaller and it reset all my folder views which annoys me to death and tried every other way possible and this vbs tool is the most awesome perfectly working tool I’ve every come across.. Awesoooooooooooooooooooommme Job!!!!!!

Question here: Why is it after I did the complete uninstall instructions on the MS site for both Office 2007 and 2010, which actually includes your utilities above. Yet, I still see Outlook, Infopath, and so on, folders in my user accounts? To me, all traces should mean all traces, and there’s all kinds of folders left in application data files for both user accounts, including the old .pst files and so on. Mind you, I even cleaned up what MS said for registry entries and this junk is still on here… http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

for those using Windows 8, you need to edit the script with Notepad++ and comment out this part like this

I downloaded it and tried to run it with the ALL argument, but it error’d out complaining that it didn’t have sufficient permissions to edit the registry. My account IS an ADMIN account, so unsure how to proceed here. My Office 2010 app’s don’t even show up in my Windows Control panel, so removing this is becoming a night mare.

I have the same problem, where it says that it didn’t have sufficient permissions to edit the registry. My account is also admin, and I’m using windows 7 32 bit. Someone said you have to run the file as administrator, but that option doesn’t exist when right-clicked. Does anyone know how to do it then?
So I managed to solve the problem above! (yes I’m the same guy)
Here’s how I did it:
– Go to “C:WindowsSystem32” and find the file “wscript.exe”
– Make a copy of said file, and rename it “wsadmin.exe” (name doesn’t matter)
– Go to file properties, compatibility, and check “Run this program as administrator”
– Now go to start, search for “run” and open the top program (this name changes between languages)
– In the field, type the following command (without the ” “):
“wsadmin C:UsersLucasDesktopOffScrub10.vbs” (example only)
But remember to change the file directory!!!!
– Now it should open the script as administrator, thus solving the problem!
You are the freaking man. I was trying to install Office 2013 but kept getting the “configuring” screen on any app launch. I’m usually pretty good at fixing things myself, but after about 2 hours of zero fixes working, I ran both your scrubbers (2010 first, then 2007), then I manually deleted the leftover common files directories and some leftover reg keys. After all that was done, re-installed Office 2013 and everything is working perfectly. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

It is still beautiful but … to run the command prompt as administrator … start … programs … accessories … right-click command prompt … select run as administrator… you will get a command prompt in C:/windows/system32. cd to the directory where you saved the scrubber files … in my case I did scrubber.vbs ALL. If you dont put ALL the program will tell you the choices you have … anyway it was sweet! Thanks Again!
Sorry… but one more comment to help … when office 2010 (or any office is removed) the outlook .pst files are still retained in a hidden AppData folder (can be unhidden in the folder options applet in the control panel) … it is safer to get those files off that location … C:UsersYourNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook … that’s it … I think.

Had you read the body of this post, you’d see that I state that the original utility was received from MS support, I only modified it. I’m thrilled to see that it’s finally been formalized, and is supported by Microsoft – I would recommend that anyone try it before mine.

It tries to delete and when unsuccessful moves Avira DLL : Avira.OE.ExtApi,dll to c:ScrubTmlavgnt.exe folder …
Of course file can not be moved if it can not be deleted … so mystery remains and bugget to be looked into 🙂

This absolutely worked great. I had two copies of Office 2010 (32 & 64 bit) somehow partially or completely installed on my laptop which was originally Windows 7, upgraded to Windows 10. Nothing I could find would get rid of it. Not Control Panel, not Fixit, not nothing. MS had no real answer, all of their advice pertained only to older versions of Windows (not 10) and were not helpful at all. I did have trouble with accessing the permissions for the script to change my registry. I am not a VB programmer so had no idea where to insert the above added little script to the one provided here. Solved that by going here (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/26747-add-run-administrator-context-menu-vbs-files-windows-10-a.html) downloading their little registry script, running it and it added “Run As Administrator” to the menu for VBS scripts. Worked like a charm !! THANK YOU !!!

The OfficeScrubber4 was awesome! When I ran the program, it scared the hell out of me to see all the junk that was deleted. Obviously, it all had to do with Office 2010. When it finished, I downloaded Office 2010 with no issues. Wow! After fighting with the installation issue for several years, what a relief!
Great tool, spend hours to try to get rid of this office, i was starting to spin up a new VM af so many failures to remove. tried Microsoft FIXIT, microsoft Office cleanup tool, Regedit, Manual file delete, delete of all update services, safe mode. but after this tool ran once all my frustration was gone.

I only made 2 minor fixes in the OffScrub10:
1. CheckRemoveOSE procedure – office 15 detection has to be before “Next” operator in order to verify each product on the list (same for OffScrub07).
2. RegWipe procedure, Delivery section – it has to find item “14” in both condition branches, but now it looks for “15” in the first condition.
Now the script has become even more perfect!
I am having great problems removing Office 2016 particularly with Outlook. I want a completely clean install (No account folders showing up). Is there anyway you could help please?
